Meet the Disney Character Voiced by Flea – Premiere

Although Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist Flea has provided backing vocals on all of the group’s albums, he has stepped up to the mic for lead vocals only on One Hot Minute‘s “Pea.” Now the Aussie-born four-stringer is lending his immaculate golden vocal cords to the Disney cartoon Sheriff Callie’s Wild West for an episode titled “The Pie Thief,” which will air Friday at 9 a.m. EST on Disney Junior. Rolling Stone is exclusively premiering the first look at Flea’s rapscallion anthropomorphic cat persona.

In the episode, Priscilla (voiced by Cree Summer) ruins a bake-off by eating all of the pies. She fibs about a make-believe pie thief that sends Sheriff Callie (Mandy Moore) and Deputy Peck (the High School Musical series’ Lucas Grabeel) on a wild goose chase to catch the fictional bandit. While they’re away and the town – named Nice and Friendly Corners – is unprotected, a real ne’er-do-well arrives: Flea’s Milk Bandit.
Sheriff Callie’s Wild West premiered in January as the “first Western for preschoolers.” Moore’s cat Sheriff character ensures that everyone in Nice and Friendly Corners adheres to the “Cowpoke Code”: fairness, honesty, hospitality, cooperation and hard work. It’s safe to assume that a milk thief is not up to code, though the character deserves some credit for doing something that its real-life rocker counterpart has not always been known for: walking around town wearing more than just a tube sock.
