Mariah Carey boosted her personal security in the wake of her feud last fall with fellow American Idol judge Nicki Minaj, Carey told Barbara Walters in an interview. “It felt like an unsafe work environment,” Carey said. “Anytime anybody’s reeling threats at somebody, you know, it’s not appropriate. I’m a professional. I’m not used to that type of environment.”
Carey said traveling with her kids convinced her to tighten security. “I just felt it was the appropriate thing to do,” she said. “Sitting there on the road with two babies, I’m not going to take any chances.”
Carey and Minaj’s first spat occurred last October, and Walters reported that Carey heard Minaj say off-camera, “If I had a gun, I would shoot that bitch.” Walters later called Minaj “unpredictable” on The View. Minaj denied on Twitter that she made the gun remark and criticized Walters for not seeking her side of the story.
