Orange Is the New Black is adding fresh meat for its upcoming second season: According to TV Line, Lori Petty has been booked for a guest-starring role on the acclaimed Netflix dramedy.

While the report doesn’t offer any additional details about Petty’s character or the extent of her role, the versatile actress seems like a logical fit for the show, which focuses on a group of disparate inmates and their dense, often mysterious backstories. Along with the 1995 cult comedy Tank Girl, one of Petty’s most famous roles came in the 1992 baseball drama A League of Their Own, starring Tom Hanks. In recent years, she’s focused her energies on television, landing stints on Prison Break and House.
Orange Is the New Black‘s first season earned very positive reviews, along with lead actress Taylor Schilling’s Golden Goble nomination for Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series (Drama). The highly anticipated second season began filming last year in New York and is expected to premiere later this spring.
How Orange Is the New Black Became Netflix’s Best Series
Early reports indicated that co-star Laura Prepon – who plays Alex Vause, the former drug-trafficker and girlfriend of Schilling’s main character, Piper – would have a very limited role going forward, but she’s now negotiated to appear in four of the upcoming season’s 13 episodes. Given her character’s tremendous importance on the show’s core plot, it’s also expected that she’ll be featured in the third season, as well.
Last October, at the PaleyFest in Manhattan, creator Jenji Kohan talked at length about the nuances of their quirky series. “I don’t set out to write heroes or anti-heros,” she explained. “I write characters – flawed characters. It’s not about stereotypes and labels.”
