See Lin-Manuel Miranda, ‘Hamilton’ Cast Perform ‘The Story of Tonight’ With Jimmy Fallon
Lin-Manuel Miranda, in his return to Hamilton, performed the musical’s “The Story of Tonight” alongside the show’s cast and Jimmy Fallon as The Tonight Show traveled Tuesday to Puerto Rico, where Miranda is staging a Hamilton residency to benefit the hurricane-ravaged island.
Miranda, back in the Alexander Hamilton role after two-and-a-half years, and his Puerto Rico production’s cast delivered a spot-on rendition of the uplifting track.
However, a minute into the performance, Fallon appears onstage in the same costume as Miranda and proceeds to hijack “The Story of Tonight,” turning the Hamilton song into a Tonight Show introduction. “We’ve got a killer show tonight,” Fallon sings. “In Puerto Rico for tonight.”
Miranda, Fallon and the Hamilton cast then dance off the stage while singing the Roots’ Tonight Show theme.
Later in the episode, after Fallon and Miranda maneuvered Hamilton‘s rotating stage, the late-night host interviewed the Tony winner while the latter sat behind Hamilton’s desk from the production.
Miranda discussed returning to his Hamilton role, his love of Puerto Rico, the devastating aftermath of Hurricane Maria and his fundraising attempts. “We’re trying to raise $15 million through the run of this show,” Miranda said. All proceeds from Hamilton‘s Puerto Rico residency will benefit Miranda’s Flamboyan Arts Fund.
