Kristen Wiig May Join ‘Anchorman’ Sequel: Report

Kristen Wiig might be joining the cast of Anchorman: The Legend Continues, a source close to the negotiations told The Wrap. Wiig would play opposite Steve Carell as a love interest for the much-beloved doofus of a weatherman, Brick Tamland.

Apart from the principal leads (including Will Ferrell, Paul Rudd and Christina Appelgate), no other cast members have been set and the script is still being written. The sequel to 2004’s Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy is scheduled to hit theaters in October 2013, and will be helmed by the original’s director Adam McKay and produced by Judd Apatow.
After a long and fruitful tenure, Wiig left Saturday Night Live at the end of last season, saying: “I know a lot of people probably assume, ‘Oh, she’s leaving because she is going to be doing movies now and things like that,’ which I will be. But I just always knew it was going to be seven and that was it. I think maybe if I were 22, I could see myself staying a little bit, but it just felt like the right time.”
Ferrell announced Anchorman: The Legend Continues in suitably outrageous fashion, appearing on Conan dressed in Burgundy’s trademark scarlet suit and playing a little bit of jazz flute to boot.
