Kevin Spacey’s Frank Underwood Is Dead in New ‘House of Cards’ Teaser
House of Cards literally puts the nail in the coffin that is Kevin Spacey’s tenure on the series in the latest teaser, which finds Robin Wright’s Claire Underwood standing over the grave of her late husband Frank.
“I’ll tell you this though, Francis,” Claire says to Frank’s freshly engraved tombstone. “When they bury me, it won’t be in my backyard. And when they pay their respects, they’ll have to wait in line.”
The tombstone reveals that Frank Underwood died in 2017, putting his death between last season and the series’ sixth and final season.
Frank Underwood’s immediate and ambiguous departure should be no surprise to viewers since Netflix cut ties with Spacey following allegations of sexual misconduct leveled against the actor. House of Cards went into a brief hiatus following Spacey’s termination before recalibrating itself with Wright in the lead role alongside new cast members Greg Kinnear and Diane Lane.
House of Cards‘ final 13 episodes arrive on the streaming service on November 2nd.
