Kevin James Teases Fake Spinoff ‘Game of Thrones of Queens’ on ‘Letterman’

“Tyrion and Lord Varys are coming over to watch the Hofstra women’s lacrosse game,” actor jokes in goofy clip. “I made bacon-wrapped taquitos!”

These days, Kevin James does most of his work in film  – starring in goofy comedies like Zookeeper and the upcoming Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2. But as he explained to David Letterman on Thursday’s Late Show, he longs for the “routine” of the TV sitcom format he enjoyed on The King of Queens. In the above segment, he reveals his upcoming (fake) return to the small screen with Game of Thrones of Queens, a joke spin-off of the HBO fantasy series.

“We’ve already started production,” James says, cutting to a clip of Cersei Lannister – a pseudo-Carrie Heffernan from Queens – yelling a marital gripe: “I’ll burn our house to the ground before I let that happen.” James, channeling Doug (Mets jersey and all), responds with a Thrones-themed complaint: “Can you burn our house down tomorrow? Tyrion and Lord Varys are coming over to watch the Hofstra women’s lacrosse game. I made bacon-wrapped taquitos! By the way, we’re out of wolf bologna!”

With Letterman’s final Late Show taping just over one month away, some of the host’s favorite guests have been stopping by the Ed Sullivan Theater to wish the host farewell. His “best friend on television,” Billy Crystal, paid tribute to Letterman’s iconic run on Wednesday with a hilarious, Fiddler on the Roof-styled musical number. The following night, actress Amy Sedaris gave Letterman a nonsensical goodbye serenade

Earlier this week, CBS announced a tentative guest line-up for the show’s climactic stretch, including appearances from Jerry Seinfeld, Bill Murray, George Clooney, Tom Hanks, Oprah Winfrey, Howard Stern, Paul Rudd, Michael Keaton, Bruce Willis, Martin Short, John Travolta, Will Ferrell, Tina Fey, Scarlett Johansson, Don Rickles, Ray Romano, Robert Downey Jr. and animal expert Jack Hanna.
