James Corden Tapped to Host 2017 Grammys

The Late Late Show‘s James Corden will host the 59th Annual Grammy Awards, set to air February 12th, 2017 at 8 p.m. ET on CBS.

Corden will take over for LL Cool J, who has hosted the show for the past five years. “I am truly honored to be hosting the Grammys next year,” Corden said. “It’s the biggest, most prestigious award show in music and I feel incredibly lucky to be part of such an incredible night.”

Earlier this year, Corden helmed the 70th Tony Awards, while he previously hosted the Brit Awards five times, working alongside Kylie Minogue and Matthew Horne in 2009 and serving solo between 2011 and 2014.

The decision to tap Corden for the Grammys is fitting, given his breakout Late Late Show segment, “Carpool Karaoke.” The bit features Corden driving around Los Angeles with a famous musician, interviewing them while also singing their songs alongside a few karaoke covers.

Adele, Justin Bieber, Britney Spears, Stevie Wonder, Selena Gomez and the Red Hot Chili Peppers are among the various artists who’ve ridden shotgun with Corden, while he’s also welcomed non-musical guests like Michelle Obama, George Clooney and Julia Roberts. “Carpool Karaoke” has become so successful, that it spawned an Emmy-winning primetime special, while Apple Music bought a series based on it this summer.

“What I say to everybody is, this is a safe place,” Corden told Rolling Stone about the segment. “The more you go for it in the songs, like you’re playing Madison Square Garden, the better it is. I have to meet them halfway with that. If I am at all timid in those moments, then they’re going to be like, ‘Wait. Hang on. What am I doing?'”
