J Dilla’s Record Collection on Sale in Michigan Record Store

A record store in Royal Oak, Michigan is selling records from the late hip-hop producer J Dilla’s personal collection, the Detroit News reports. According to the paper, a record shop called UHF has between 7,000 and 8,000 records believed to be previously owned by Dilla.
The shop acquired the lot from an abandoned storage unit in Clinton Township, Michigan. The collection included a huge amount of records along with cassette tapes marked “Jaydee Beats” and junk mail addressed to James Yancey, which is Dilla’s real name. UHF owner Jeff Bubeck told the Detroit News that he would like to donate some of the proceeds of the sale to the J Dilla Foundation, but has had difficulty getting in touch with the producer’s mother, Maureen Yancey.
