Gregg Allman, the National Sing ‘Silver Bells’ With Stephen Colbert

Holiday song kicks off ‘Christmas Carol Week’

The Colbert Report kicked off what they're calling "Christmas Carol Week" last night with Gregg Allman and the National's Matt Berninger, Bryce Dessner and Aaron Dessner singing "Silver Bells" with host. Stephen Colbert. If it sounds extremely random, it is – but they pull it off.

Berninger's deep baritone pairs well with Allman's southern charm, against a soft, acoustic arrangement. For his part, Colbert helps out in the chorus as best he can and, halfway through, provides a spoken-word love tale of sorts, declaring "darling, you are the cow of my every field."

"Christmas Carol Week" continues with promised performances from Cyndi Lauper, Aaron Neville and the Blind Boys of Alabama.
