‘Game of Thrones’ to Screen Season 4 Premiere at Barclays Center

Eager fans who can’t wait for the April 6th premiere of Game of Thrones‘ fourth season may be able to see the first episode earlier and in much bigger form, as HBO announced Tuesday that 7,000 people will be able to watch the season premiere at New York’s Barclays Center on March 20th.

The network will host “The Epic Fan Experience” on a stadium-sized screen that will also include, “show costumes and props displays from the acclaimed traveling exhibition, photo ops on the Iron Throne and other special surprises,” according to a press release.

Tickets go on sale Thursday for $15 on Ticketmaster, with proceeds going to charity.

The new season is expected to tackle the second half of A Storm of Swords, the third book in George R.R. Martin’s ongoing A Song of Fire and Ice series. The first half of the book formed the show’s third season, which came to a head with the murder of three main characters in the brutal and shocking “Red Wedding” episode. According to the Los Angeles Times, Martin himself wrote the new season’s second installment.

Last month, HBO released a 15-minute trailer for the next season featuring the arrival of new character Oberyn Martell, the strengthening of Tyrion Lannister’s relationship with his sister Cersei, and the maturation of Daenerys Targaryen, who must figure out her role as a leader as she sits atop her own throne. And, of course, there’s King Joffrey Baratheon, the new proprietor of the Iron Throne. According to executive producer, writer and director David Benioff, “Some of the most shocking and mind-blowing scenes of the entire series come at the end of this season. There are some very bloody confrontations.”

HBO is taking a more interactive approach to Thrones than other shows. In January, the network announced the return of its Thrones traveling exhibit, featuring a slew of show-related costumes and props – including spears and crossbows, cloaks, dresses, house banners and even dragon eggs – seen in the show’s first three seasons, along with a few select pieces from Season Four.

Earlier this week, Parks and Recreation paid homage to the series in a deleted scene featuring Adam Scott as a Thrones superfan who is gifted by wife Leslie with a replice of the Iron Throne. No doubt similar reactions will be seen at Barclays Center.
