Hafthor Julius Bjornsson can toss kegs of beer 24 feet in the air and deadlift 990 pounds with ease – and, as any Game of Thrones fan knows, he’s also able to crush skulls with his bare hands – so it’s not surprising to learn he essentially consumes half of Westeros each day at the training table.
As the Icelandic strongman, who once sparred with Conor McGregor and portrayed Gregor “The Mountain” Clegane on HBO’s hit show, prepares for the 2016 World’s Strongest Man competition, he’s been fueling his body with an insane amount of food (more than 3,000 calories before noon). And he’s just shared the menu for a typical day on Facebook.
“People been asking me a lot about my diet and what I eat,” he wrote. “Here’s my diet plan…yes, this is a lot and I don’t recommend you try this!”
OK, we won’t. In case you’re wondering, Hafthor starts each morning with 8 eggs, 200 grams of oats, fruit and avocado, downs 400 grams of beef, 400 grams of sweet potatoes and a handful of spinach a few hours later, then eats another 400 grams of chicken and 400 grams of potatoes for lunch. No word on whether he fits in a snack of Tyrion Lannister in the early afternoon.
There’s also shakes made up of bananas, fruits and Rice Krispies, more beef and vegetables, several juices – “to get more calories!!” – and a late meal of salmon and sweet potatoes. Oh, and raw eggs in the middle of the night, to keep that protein pumping.
It may seem like a lot, but when you consider the dude has finished in the top three at the last four World’s Strongest Man competitions, well, it almost seems like he’s trying to cut weight.
