Conan O’Brien to Host MTV’s ‘Second Most Prestigious Awards Show’

Conan O’Brien will host his first awards show since 2006 next month when he helms MTV’s Movie Awards. “After eight years of intense negations, I am honored to announce I am hosting MTV’s second most prestigious awards show,” he said Tuesday night on his show Conan. O’Brien hosted the Emmys in 2002 and 2006 and co-hosted in 2003. The MTV Movie Awards will air live from the Los Angele’s Nokia Theatre at 9 p.m. EST on April 13th.

O’Brian announced the news by presenting “some of the most prestigious awards an artist can receive”: an Oscar, a Golden Globe, a BAFTA and so on, before knocking them all off his desk and calling them garbage. MTV’s Golden Popcorn award, he says, is the only one that matters.
MTV will announce the nominees on March 6th at 7 a.m. EST on their Movie Awards website. Last year’s categories included “Best Gut-Wrenching Performance,” “Best Scared-as-Shit Performance” and “Best Kiss,” in addition to more traditional categories like “Movie of the Year.”
Last year’s big winners were Silver Linings Playbook and The Avengers, the latter of which took home the top honors and Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper winning Best Female and Best Male Performance for Playbook. That show was hosted by Rebel Wilson, who also won two awards, besting Anne Hathaway for Best Musical Performance for her work in Pitch Perfect and winning Breakthrough Performance for the same movie.
