Bryan Singer called the accusations of sexual abuse leveled against him “outrageous, vicious and completely false” in a statement issued today, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The director said that he was also withdrawing from all media events ahead of his upcoming movie X-Men: Days of Future Past, which opens next month.

“I do not want these fictitious claims to divert ANY attention from X-Men: Days of Future Past,” Singer wrote. “This fantastic film is a labor of love and one of the greatest experiences of my career.”

As THR previously reported, Michael F. Egan III brought a civil suit against Singer, alleging that between the ages of 15 and 17 the director sexually assaulted him, used other forms of physical force on him and forced intoxication with cocaine. Singer’s lawyers denied every claim, but this is the first time the director himself has addressed them.

“I promise when this situation is over the facts will show this to be the sick twisted shake down it is,” Singer continued in his statement. “I want to thank fans, friends and family for all their amazing and overwhelming support.”
