‘Bruce Springsteen’s High Hopes’ Doc to Air on HBO

A new documentary about the making of Bruce Springsteen‘s latest album will air on HBO next month, a few days before his group the E Street Band receive a special award at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
The half-hour film, Bruce Springsteen’s High Hopes, will detail the making of the singer-songwriter’s most recent record, High Hopes, which came out earlier this year and debuted at Number One in 20 countries. The film, which premieres April 4th at 9:30 p.m. EST, will feature scenes of studio sessions, rehearsals and interviews with Springsteen and his High Hopes collaborator, Rage Against the Machine guitarist Tom Morello, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Filmmaker Thom Zimny, who previously helmed the 2010 HBO Springsteen doc The Promise: The Making of Darkness on the Edge of Town, led the project. Zimny has also directed the Springsteen documentaries Bruce Springsteen: A Conversation With His Fans in 2011 and Wings for Wheels: The Making of Born to Run in 2005.
Springsteen and the E Street Band will be back in the U.S. around the time the doc airs, following touring in South Africa and a string of Australia and New Zealand gigs. On the latter run, he covered AC/DC‘s “Highway to Hell,” INXS’ “Don’t Change,” the Bee Gees‘ “Stayin’ Alive” and even Lorde’s “Royals,” who said she “got teary” over Springsteen performing her song.
On April 10th, the E Street Band will receive the Award for Musical Excellence at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony in Brooklyn. The group’s guitarist and singer Steven Van Zandt recently told Rolling Stone that the nod meant a lot to him, if only because people assumed he’d already been inducted. “It’s always a bit strange when you’re in a conversation with somebody and they assume you’re already in,” he said. “You gotta say, ‘Well, actually. . .’ That little bit of awkwardness will be gone now. And of course, you’re honored to be part of the same institution as all of my heroes.”
