‘Big Mouth’ Parody ‘When Harry Met Sally’ Interviews in Valentine’s Day Trailer
Big Mouth parodies When Harry Met Sally in a new teaser for the animated Netflix show’s upcoming Valentine’s Day episode. Four of the show’s pubescent stars reflect on meeting the sex-obsessed Hormone Monsters in a brief homage to the romantic comedy’s interview sequences.
Andrew (John Mulaney) and Matthew (Andrew Rannells) both recall their first brush with Nick Kroll’s grotesque Maury (or Maurice). “We both love romantic comedies,” Andrew says. “I look over next to me, and who’s sitting there? He was a dog. I really thought he was a large dog.” Matthew remembers the monster suggesting he buy a fragrance for a boy named Austin. “I got him a sample of Curve cologne,” he says. And after the boy tried to hit him, he “sprayed that Curve cologne right in that closet case’s eyes and ran away.”
Jessi (Jessi Klein) and Nick (Kroll) share their awkward experiences with Connie (Maya Rudolph). “I got my period. Then I got cramps that were truly, like, a hate crime,” Jessi says. “Then I threw a yogurt at my mother.” Connie, always pushing the kids to embrace their wild side, replies, “It was beautiful.” Nick first met spotted Connie while hanging out with Jessi, and “it didn’t even cross [his] mind that she was a possibility.” The monster fires back, “Well, sweetheart, trust me — I wasn’t looking at you either.”
Big Mouth also satirized When Harry Met Sally’s diner orgasm scene in a previous trailer for the “My Furry Valentine” episode, which hits Netflix on February 8th. The show’s second season debuted in October, and the network renewed it for a third installment the following month.
