‘Arrested Development’ Movie at Least a Year Away

Jason Bateman says deal still in the works for film follow-up

A possible Arrested Development movie would be at least a year, and maybe more, away from reality, Jason Bateman told the movie site I Am Rogue while promoting his new film Disconnect.

Bateman, who stars as Michael Bluth, noted that a film is not yet a certainty – “I don’t even think they’ve started making a deal for that,” he added – but that the upcoming episodes set to premiere on Netflix on May 26th were designed by creator Mitchell Hurwitz to lead into a movie: “One doesn’t really work without the other,” Bateman said.

‘Arrested Development’ Will Look ‘Very Different’ in Fourth Season

“Unfortunatley there’s probably gonna be about a year, maybe year and a half, between the two,” he continued. “So you’ll end up having to watch these episodes again. It wasn’t perfectly scheduled, but we were just happy to get together as soon as we could.”

In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, David Cross (who plays Tobias Fünke on Arrested Development) said he wasn’t totally sure if a movie would be happening: “I know what the plan is, and I would love an opportunity to get to do it. Whether that happens, I don’t know. But I want to work with these people for the rest of my life.”
