Disney is offering everyone a chance to celebrate Halloween in style this season with the launch of its Adaptive Costumes collection. The new collection, available now on shopDisney.com, includes two wheelchair wraps that turn a regular wheelchair into a superhero-worthy vehicle or a pumpkin-inspired coach fit for a princess.
There are also three costumes for kids, designed with accessibility in mind. The costumes are all made with stretchy fabrics that fit a variety of body sizes, with a flap that opens up in the back to easily slip on and off. The adaptive costumes also come in longer lengths, for full coverage even when seated (say, in a wheelchair).
Disney has always led the way when it comes to inclusion, with its theme parks among some of the most accessible vacation spots in the world. Disney continues to strive to deliver the same great experience for all of its guests and fans, and the company’s pledge for inclusive experiences now extends to its apparel as well.
The Incredimobile Wheelchair Cover Set turns a wheelchair into a supercar inspired by Mr. Incredible’s transportation mode of choice from the animated film, The Incredibles. The stiff felt material slides easily over any standard-sized wheelchair with 24-inch wheels. Special hooks and loop tabs, plus a self-stick fabric help keep the cover in place, while support bars ensure the car never veers off course.
We also love the Cinderella’s Coach Wheelchair Cover Set, which transforms a wheelchair into a beautiful coach ready for the ball. There’s no magic required — just a couple of wheel covers and a sturdy shell that attaches easily to the wheelchair frame. This set is also designed to fit any standard-sized wheelchair with 24-inch wheels.
Both wheelchair costumes allow for full use and movement of the chair so you can move around — and trick or treat — in style.
When it comes to costumes, we like the Cinderella Adaptive Costume ($34.99, available here), which has a flap opening for easier dressing, and a longer hemline for full coverage when seated in a wheelchair. All of the whimsical details that make Disney costumes so fun are found in this dress too, with silver foil filigree, organza trims, and decorative jewels throughout.
A Buzz Lightyear and an Incredibles 2 Adaptive Costume ($34.99, available here), meantime, offer plenty of options for dressing up as your favorite superhero. Both costumes feature a longer length and roomier fit, plus the same easy-open flap as the Cinderella dress. The costumes also come with gloves and a mask to complete the look.
These adaptive costumes are great for Halloween, but also great beyond Halloween, as options for roleplay and costume parties too.
