Have you ever had someone who supposedly loves you “helpfully” yank an errant nose hair from your nostril and grin in your face as your eyes water and you yelp in pain? An effective way to put an end to the cruelty is regular nose hair maintenance with an electric trimmer, which is way less painful than tweezers and also less likely to end in ingrown hairs and/or tears.
The best nose hair trimmers work quickly and won’t tug at the hair, helping to clip any loose ends that are hanging out, while cleaning up any clutter inside the nostrils as well.
Nose hair trimmers work using a small circular blade that spins inside your nose to remove follicles. We looked for models with extra attachments and uses too, say, to remove random ear hair or touch up rogue eyebrows. All of our picks have ergonomic handles that are comfortable to hold, and some of them can be rinsed under the sink for easy cleanup.
While we do recommend nose hair trimming on the (semi) regular, we would also caution you not to overdo it. Nose hair actually performs a useful health function by blocking particles from entering your nose, thereby preventing infection and allergens. Judicious trimming is considered the safest option for nostril grooming.
1. FlePow Ear and Nose Hair Trimmer
Waterproof, quiet, and painless, this nose hair trimmer is a general favorite. It has dual-edged spinning blades which quickly and accurately remove hairs wherever you find them, whether it’s in your nostrils, ears, eyebrows, or beard.
We really like that this trimmer keeps it simple, with a one-button design and no unnecessary extra attachments or accessories that you’re all but guaranteed to lose eventually. We also love that it’s completely waterproof, so you can use it in the shower and avoid getting little hairs all over the sink. Though slightly bulkier than other trimmers, it is still easy to hold and travel with.
This trimmer runs on a single AA battery which can last up to six months, and has a detachable head which makes it easy to clean.
Pros: Simple, painless, and 100 percent waterproof.
Cons: A little larger than most trimmers.
2. Wahl Groomsman Rechargeable Trimmer
Unlike the one-button trimmer above, the “groomsman rechargeable trimmer” is more of an all-in-one trimming system, with attachments that take care of multiple grooming needs.
This kit comes with six guards suitable for 14 different beard lengths, from stubble, to thick, full beards. It also comes with a nose and ear hair attachment. We also like that this trimmer is rechargeable, so no need for external batteries. The self-sharpening blades keep things tidy and effective.
The whole kit includes an adjustable guide comb, three stubble combs and four hair-guide combs, plus a storage travel zipper pouch, and styling guide.
Pros: All-purpose trimmer convenient for any facial hair touch ups. Great for precise touch-ups.
Cons: There may be more attachments than you really need.
3. Philips Norelco Nose Hair Trimmer 3000
We really love the ergonomic design of this trimmer which, according to the manufacturer, was designed at an angle perfect for easily reaching all of those hard-to-reach spots. It comes with six pieces specific to what you might need to trim, be that nose hair, ear hair, or anything else. We particularly like the comb-shaped attachment for cleaning up wild eyebrows.
This trimmer also includes its own guard system, which better protects your skin from the blades in case you’re the type of person prone to nicks. We also find the attachments to be easy to swap and to clean, which is another must.
Pros: Ergonomic design and perfectly angled.
Cons: Less effective for especially thick nostril hair.
4. ConairMAN Battery-Powered Ear/Nose Trimmer
Unlike the dual-edged blades on other trimmers, the ConairMAN trimmer uses a 360 degree bevel blade, designed to cut from the top, middle, and bottom of the hair follicle for a precise and painless trim. Some people find the typical nozzle-tip of most nose hair trimmers to be uncomfortable, which makes this trimmer an ideal option.
Like others, it includes additional attachments, including a detail trimmer and shaving attachment, which can be useful but are not always necessary.
This trimmer is powered by a single AA battery and has a compact design which makes it easy to travel with, whether that’s to the gym or a long trip.
Pros: Beveled blade design cuts follicles at the base as well as the tip.
Cons: Shaver attachments not as effective as other heavy duty picks on our list.
