While I know academically that there are some people who walk around their homes barefoot or even, gasp, wear their outdoor shoes indoors, I also know I will never understand these people. If you are #TeamHouseShoes like me and you’re looking for a new pair of men’s slippers, I have some suggestions.
Things to Think About When Buying Men’s Slippers
Think about the size and sweatiness of your feet (be honest), as well as how many hours a day you tend to wear slippers, and if you anticipate needing some kind of rubber sole.
Style: We narrowed our choices down to two basic styles: clog and moccasin. Clog styles tend to be easiest to slip into and can be more accommodating of wider feet. On the other hand, clog slippers run the risk of your foot slipping out incidentally when, say, walking down the stairs. Plus, cold ankles. Moccasins slip over your feet like a full shoe rather than a slide or sandal, providing extra support for your ankles.
Width: Check to see whether slippers tend to run large or small. Smaller sizes may stretch to fit your size and become more comfortable, but too small and you just get squashed toes.
Sole: Slippers basically always have some kind of rubber on the sole, but we prefer thicker rubber that can also be worn outside and keep feet dry if you accidentally step in spilled water while you’re getting the mail or walking the dog.
Material and Construction: Memory foam cushioning is ideal, because it provides your foot with soft support that eventually molds to your foot’s specific shape. Common slipper materials like microsuede or breathable cotton make a difference when it comes to the shoe’s warmth and how much it will retain odor. Also important is the overall quality of stitching and material, as soft house slippers tend to fall apart after a lot of use.
1. RockDove Men’s Original Two-Tone Memory Foam Slipper
You’ll approve of the balance of comfort and structure offered by these slippers, with a memory foam cushion sole, breathable waffle knit, and rubber sole that allows you to go from couch to garage with no problem. We would also note that these slippers can run a little small, so size up if you’re between sizes.
2. Hanes Men’s Slippers
Unlike our first pick, these Hanes slippers run slightly wide, making them a good choice for feet that fall on the larger end of the scale. They are well-made of quality materials, with memory foam padding that people agree is soft and comfy. The manufacturer also notes the Hanes Fresh IQ odor protection, which keeps them from getting too smelly, especially over time.
3. IZOD Men’s Classic Two-Tone Moccasin Slipper
We like the classic look of these moccasin-style IZOD slippers, made with a microsuede outer and plush cushioning that keeps feet cozy and warm without getting too sweaty. The structured shape provides more support while the durable tread sole makes these ideal for fetching the paper or walking the dog outside too.
4. ULTRAIDEAS Men’s Memory Foam Moccasin Slippers
The rubber sole of these house shoes is so thick, you could almost (almost) get away with wearing them at the office as well as your living room. Our other favorite feature is the jersey knit fabric, which is stretchy, breathable, and soft for ultimate comfort. It’s like wearing a soft and cozy sweater on your feet.
