It’s one thing to have a good cooler at your campsite, beach party or tailgate, but it’s another thing to have to carry it around. That’s why we’re keen on wheeled coolers. With grippy wheels, long handles and lightweight construction, the best wheeled coolers let you easily roll your food and drinks to your next event rather than having to carry the weight in your hands.
We’ve rounded up some well-made coolers that give you plenty of room for your stuff, while being easy to move and transport. It isn’t just about the wheels either — all of our picks are well-insulated to keep things cold, with durable materials that hold up to all conditions (and even to animal intruders to your campsite). These coolers wipe down easily and some are made with materials that resist odors, mold, and mildew.
Whether you’re heading to the big game, throwing a picnic in the park, or going off the grid for a weekend, pick up — nay, pull up — one of these wheeled coolers to keep your food and drinks cold, secure and on-the-move with ease.
1. Igloo Ice Cube Roller Cooler
This durable cooler gets you 60 quarts of capacity, enough for a case of soda, snacks, ice and more. The “Ultratherm” insulated body keeps your food and drinks cold, while the lid doubles as a table top, with four recessed drink holders.
Side scoop handles let you lift the cooler with ease, though why struggle when there’s also a long telescopic handle that you can use to pull the cooler to your event? The wheels roll smoothly — even over grass and gravel.
Use the push button to release the handle, which also locks safely in place.
PROS: The handle features a couple “grooves” along the top, letting you hang a jacket, bag or set of keys.
CONS: The drain plug snaps on and off, so you have to be careful not to lose it.
2. Coleman Soft Cooler
Get more flexibility with a soft-sided cooler, like this one from camping and outdoors brand, Coleman.
The main compartment holds up to 42 cans, with a hard plastic liner that keeps things cold (once you throw some ice in). The liner is germ-resistant and treated with antimicrobials to prevent mold, mildew, and odors. It can also be removed for easy washing.
The nylon shell is durable and water-resistant, while Coleman says its heat-welded seams help to prevent leaks.
Grab the cooler from its side handles, or pull it with the telescoping handle.
PROS: A ton of exterior pockets provide ample storage.
CONS: Your contents won’t be as protected or insulated as with a hard shell cooler.
3. YETI Tundra Haul Wheeled Cooler
There’s nothing tougher than a YETI Cooler, and we like this “Tundra” model which gets you enough space for 45 cans. YETI says its heavy-duty construction is “virtually indestructible,” and it’s so strong that it’ll even keep animals out if you’re in the woods. The wheels are larger than other models on our list, making them super grippy. YETI also says they are “puncture-resistant,” making them ideal to trudge through all surfaces. An aluminum arm pulls the cooler easily.
This cooler features thicker walls than many of its competitors, with up to two inches of insulation injected inside to help keep your contents cold. The lid clips shut — and stays shut — preventing anything from leaking out or coming in.
PROS: Weather-resistant materials make this a solid bet for the outdoors.
CONS: Cooler weighs 37 pounds on its own, making it the heaviest option on our list.
