Watch George Lucas Mock Fox News on ‘The Daily Show’

“Honoring” the network’s coverage of the Ferguson shooting, filmmaker teases fake-patriotic titles like ‘The Empire Strikes Back, Justifiably’ and ‘Star Wars: The Clinton Menace’

On Thursday’s episode of The Daily Show, host Jon Stewart recruited filmmaker George Lucas to sarcastically honor Fox News for their cautioned coverage of the Michael Brown shooting in Ferguson, Missouri. The Star Wars mastermind, representing “liberal Hollywood,” promised to “only make movies from now on that are blindly uncritical of America,” citing surefire blockbuster examples American Exceptionalism GraffitiStar Wars: The Reagan Missile Defense VersionThe Empire Strikes Back, Justifiably and Star Wars: The Clinton Menace.

Elsewhere in the segment, Stewart takes hilarious shots at his network rivals – even presenting them with a nautical-themed dessert as a gesture of solidarity. “To honor that time you were right, we got you a Fudgie the Whale,” he says. “You know why? We think you’re a whale of a network — in that we’ve been chasing you our whole lives and just can’t kill you.”

The host ends with a compilation of congratulatory clips from Fox News’ “biggest fans” — which turns out to be the network’s anchors saying things like, “Thank god for Fox News” and praising their own work. “Your network launched in 1996 — you’re 18 years old,” Stewart says. “Just like every other 18-year-old, you have a massive ego and spend 24 hours a day jerking yourself off.”

Lucas is an old friend of The Daily Show, having previously appeared on the show in 2010 to promote the film survey book Blockbusting and in 2012 to plug the film Red Tails. (In the former interview, he also got hounded by Stewart for Star Wars plot holes.)

In February, Stewart announced plans to leave the show with an emotional on-air speech. His final date is still undecided, as is his eventual replacement – but in a recent interview with Catie Lazarus’ Employee of the Month podcast, he said he’s excited to see “the next iteration” of the show.
