Watch Colbert Say Goodbye to ‘Half-Kissed Frog Prince Ted Cruz’

Stephen Colbert doffed his powdered blue wig and eyebrows for an in memoriam edition of The Late Show‘s “Hungry for Power Games,” bidding Ted Cruz and John Kasich the cattiest of farewells following Donald Trump’s big win in Indiana Tuesday.

Colbert opened by remembering Kasich’s campaign highlights, such as his win in Ohio — and nothing else. “Sadly, even in losing, tribute Kasich has lost,” Colbert added, “because last night’s big loser was Texas senator, and half-kissed frog prince, Ted Cruz.”

Still, Colbert praised Cruz for “going down swinging” — showcasing the already immortal clip of the ex-candidate accidentally elbowing his wife, Heidi, after his concession speech. The end of the Cruz candidacy also meant the end of Carly Fiorina’s brief vice presidential bid: “Start to finish, her candidacy lasted just six days,” Colbert grinned. “Less than a full shark week!”

While there seemed little else to say about Cruz, Colbert received a surprise visit from cartoon Trump, who sent off the senator with one last sweet sentiment: “Lyin’ Ted is lying in the ground. He ran a tough race, but he was really bad at it — and his father killed JFK. Pathetic.”
