U.S. State Department Responds to Randy Blythe Petition

The U.S. State Department has responded to a petition on WhiteHouse.gov regarding Lamb of God frontman Randy Blythe and his recent indictment on manslaughter charges in the Czech Republic. “Pending Mr. Blythe’s trial, we cannot discuss the details of his case. We are closely monitoring the progress of his trial,” read the response by Michael Posner, Assistant Secretary of State for Democracy, Human Rights and Labor.

The State Department noted in its 2011 Human Rights Report that the Czech Republic’s “laws provide for the right to a fair trial, and the independent judiciary generally enforced this right.” The State Department also said they “expect that the Czech government will make all efforts to ensure a fair, transparent and timely trial for Mr. Blythe, and guarantee full protection of his legal rights under Czech law and his welfare.”

Blythe has said he will return to the Czech Republic to stand trial for the 2010 incident in Prague in which a fan who repeatedly came onstage was pushed, fell and later died.
