Ted Cruz on Trump: ‘Donald is Ducking’ Fox News Debate
Ted Cruz said Donald Trump was “afraid of being challenged,” after the Republican presidential frontrunner pulled out of a scheduled Fox News debate that has since been canceled, Mediaite reports.
Speaking with Megyn Kelly, Cruz cracked to the host, “It seems that Donald Trump finds you a very, very terrifying person,” noting that Trump previously bailed on a Fox debate before the Iowa caucus (Trump, however, did appear at the last Fox debate, on March 3rd, which Kelly helped moderate).
Cruz went on to bash Trump for forgoing a direct debate with him now that the GOP field has narrowed, and offered up a head-slapping one-liner, “Donald apparently is ducking.” The Texas senator added, “His excuse is silliness, and it reflects his assumption that he thinks the voters can’t figure out that he’s not telling them the truth.”
After Tuesday’s five primaries, Cruz remains Trump’s strongest opponent in the GOP presidential race in terms of delegate math, though Ohio governor John Kasich has vowed to remain in the race until the Republican convention July.
