Paul Simon made a surprise visit to the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia on Monday night. He played the unity song, "Bridge Over Troubled Water," before a crowd still coming together after a fractious primary. The performance took place after Al Franken, a Hillary Clinton supporter, and Sarah Silverman, one of Bernie Sanders' most vocal celebrity supporters, took the stage together at the DNC to call for party unity, slam the "Bernie or Bust" movement and skewer Donald Trump.
The theme for the first night is "United Together," and the speakers include New Jersey Senator Cory Booker, First Lady Michelle Obama, Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders and Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren.
Simon recently finished his tour supporting his latest album, Stranger to Stranger, earlier this month, and he hinted in a recent interview at his possible retirement from show business.
