Sarah Palin Talks Donald Trump’s Success, Louis C.K. Apology on ‘Late Night’
Sarah Palin visited Late Night With Seth Meyers to talk Donald Trump, Syrian refugees and Louis C.K. In the interview, Meyers circled back to the Saturday Night Live 40th anniversary special in February where – during a question-and-answer portion – the former Republican vice presidential candidate asked Jerry Seinfeld how much Lorne Michaels would pay her to run for president. She then sweetened the pot so SNL could have more comedic fodder: Donald Trump would be her vice president pick. Fast forward to November and Trump is now the Republican frontrunner.
“[Trump’s] not a politician, thank the lord. People are just really tired of the status quo,” Palin said of the mogul’s GOP success so far. Palin added that, while experience in a political office is important, “at this time, with our economy, with our national security issues … it’s been a culmination of a lot of the problems with the professional politicians that have gotten us to where we are, and people are saying the status quo has got to go. Let’s get some diversity in there. Let’s get some fresh blood in there.”
Palin also shared another anecdote from the SNL 40 celebration: An unexpected apology from Louis C.K. According to Palin, the comedian approached her to say sorry about offensive tweets he wrote about her. C.K. previously revealed in April that he apologized to Palin, and now Palin told her side of the story, admitting that she wasn’t even aware of the drunken tweets in question. “Of all the celebrities that have said some things that weren’t always the nicest things, he’s the only one who’s ever apologized like that,” Palin said. “It was lovely.”
