Okay, you haven’t heard of Representative Mark Foley, the right-wing GOP member of Congress from Florida. But Foley quit Congress today — possibly, just possibly, in a scandal involving a 16-year-old boy who served as a congressional “page,” or glorified gofer. Investigations are looming after it was revealed that Foley exchanged a series of emails with the boy — asking about his birthday and telling him, according to the Washington Post, that he’d “just finished a long bike ride and was going to the gym.”
“Send me a pic of you as well,” the 52-year-old congressman added, in one email.
Foley’s November opponent, Democrat Tim Mahoney — now the odds-on favorite to capture that Republican-held seat for the Dems — is demanding an investigation. Three years ago, Foley held a news conference in Florida to say that he would refuse to talk about his sexual orientation after newspapers published rumors that he is gay.
