Pentagon: Homosexuality a ‘Mental Disorder’

Donald Rumsfeld talks a lot about modernizing America’s military, but it’s still 1973 in the Pentagon as far as homosexuality is concerned. It was 33 years ago that the American Psychiatric Association dropped gayness from its master list of mental illnesses. Yet the Department of Defense still lists it as a “mental disorder” on par with “mental retardation.”

Presumably, this was also on the books when Dick Cheney was SecDef in the early’90s. Someone should ask him why he didn’t do more to address his daughter’s concerning illness.
