Louis C.K. Shadowing New York Mayor for Potential Project

Louis C.K. briefly traded the Comedy Cellar for a New York state budget meeting as the comedian spent the past few days shadowing New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio for a potential new project. The New York Times reports that C.K. accompanied the mayor to a community policy rally in Brownsville, Brooklyn, taking notes and photographs of de Blasio’s actions. The comedian also spent time at New York’s City Hall, exploring the offices while de Blasio gave a talk on city finances.

When asked why he was following de Blasio around, C.K. was vague, simply telling reporters, “I’m just messing around with something, and we’ll see what happens.” However, a mayoral subplot won’t be heading to his FX series Louie as C.K. admitted, “It’s for a possible new idea. I have no idea if it’s going to happen.” 

C.K. and de Blasio first teamed for a skit during a charity dinner in March 2015, Gothamist reports. “He’s a nice guy, and he’s been really accommodating. So hopefully I’m not bothering him,” C.K. said of de Blasio.

In addition to toying around with a mayoral project, C.K. revealed in May that he would write, direct and star in I’m a Cop, which marks his first time at the helm of a film since 2001’s Pootie Tang. C.K. will star as a depressed, middle-aged volunteer cop whose mother is a decorated retired officer. After her death, C.K.’s character, still feeling her influence, begrudgingly sets out to become a real police officer.
