Foley Page-Turner: Day Five

The most interesting person to emerge so far in the Foley page scandal is one Kirk Fordham. Fordham served for a decade as Foley’s chief of staff in the House. Yesterday, he resigned as an aide to another member of Congress, Tom Reynolds (R.-NY). At first, Fordham tried to negotiate a deal with ABC News to save Foley’s neck last week, asking ABC’s Brian Ross if he would hold back publication of Foley’s “naughty emails” in exchange for an exclusive on Foley’s resignation from Congress. No sale. Now, however, Fordham is spilling the beans, saying that he urged top House Republican leaders to deal with Foley three years ago:

“The fact is, even prior to the existence of the Foley e-mail exchanges, I had more than one conversation with senior staff at the highest levels of the House of Representatives, asking them to intervene when I was informed of Mr. Foley’s inappropriate behavior.”

Fordham is now at the center of the storm. And that storm is a political Katrina, headed straight for the House of Representatives.
