Donald Trump Responds to Terrorist Recruitment Video

“What am I going to do? I have to say what I have to say,” Republican frontrunner says of al-Qaeda affiliate video

Days after it was revealed that an al-Qaeda affiliate used a sound bite of Donald Trump calling for a travel ban on Muslims to the United States in a terrorist recruitment video, the Republican presidential frontrunner responded to the recent al-Shabab-produced video in an interview with Face the Nation that aired Sunday.

When host John Dickerson asked Trump about the video and the speech that provided the sound bite, the mogul responded, “Look, there’s a problem. I bring it up. Other people have called me and say, ‘You have guts to bring it up because frankly, it’s true but nobody wants to get involved. Now people are getting involved.” He added, “People that are on different persuasions than me right now John are saying, ‘You know maybe Trump isn’t wrong. We want to examine it.'”

Asked whether it concerns him that his speech is the focal point of a terrorist recruitment video that insinuates how the West is turning against Muslims, Trump said, “They use other people, too. What am I going to do? I have to say what I have to say. And you [know] what I have to say? There’s a problem. We have to find out what is a problem. And we have to solve that problem.”

In Trump’s December speech, made in the days following the San Bernardino shooting, the Republican candidate told an audience, “Donald J. Trump is calling for a total and complete shutdown of Muslims entering the United States until our country’s representative can figure out what the hell is going on.” It’s that clip that was used in the al-Shabab video.
