Colbert: ‘Maybe I’m a Conspiracy Theorist, but Barack Obama’s Trying to Get Reelected’

President Obama announced last week that he will no longer deport illegal immigrants brought here as children who have a high school diploma and no criminal record. On last night’s Report, Stephen Colbert contemplated this monumental policy announcement: “This is shocking, folks. Obama has now thrown open America’s doors to people who are already here.”
Republicans and media types were quick to cast Obama’s move as a “cynical” election-year play for Latino voters. Colbert had to agree: “Yes, this is cynical. Obama needs to do something to attract Hispanic voters in November, and right now he’s barely clinging to a 43-point lead. Sounds impressive, but remember: that’s in pesos.” It’s disingenuous indeed for the President to pander to voters during election season. After all, said Colbert, “the President’s not supposed to do anything in an election year, let alone the right thing.” Watch:
