Colbert: ‘Congress Is So Dumb’

Given the amount of time members of Congress waste on “petty schoolyard bickering,” it’s no wonder the American people think they’re dumb. But it turns out they’re even dumber than we knew. A new study analyzed congressional speeches and found that our lawmakers are speaking at the level of a sophomore in high school, a dropoff from seven years ago, when they at least spoke at the level of a junior. “Congress is so dumb,” said Stephen Colbert on last night’s Report, “that it took them seven years just to be held back a grade.” Members need to smarten up, he went on, if only for self-preservation: “If you use big words, no one will know you aren’t doing jack squat.” Watch:
