Andrea Bocelli Will Not Perform at Donald Trump Inauguration

Inauguration chairman Thomas J. Barrack Jr. said classical-crossover artist offered to sing at January event

Classical-crossover vocalist Andrea Bocelli will not perform at Donald Trump‘s presidential inauguration in January, the New York Times reports. After rumors that Bocelli might perform, inaugural committee chairman Thomas J. Barrack Jr. told CNBC‘s Squawk Box that the president-elect denied Bocelli’s offer to perform.

“The Bocellis came to him and said, ‘Look, if it would be helpful to you, if you would like us to perform, we would consider it,'” Barrack said, describing the singer and his wife as Trump’s longtime friends. “And Donald said, ‘You don’t need to. We’re not in that kind of a framework. Thanks very much for the offer. You’re my friend. You are always welcome at the White House.'”

Currently, the only confirmed inauguration performer is 16-year-old opera vocalist and former America’s Got Talent competitor Jackie Evancho, who will sing “The Star-Spangled Banner.”
