Bloggers have this morning highlighted a couple of fascinating responses from recent polls. First, Josh Marshall notes that a recent Gallup poll finds that churchgoing White Republicans, who in August preferred Congressional Republicans to Democrats by 29 points, now are split equally between Republicans and Democrats. Even among these, the GOP's core voters, Republicans have no advantage. Second, DemFromCT of Daily Kos points out that according to the latest Harris poll, for the first time since just after September 11, voters now prefer Democrats to Republicans when it comes to protecting the country from terrorists. These are astonishing numbers. Both the GOP's base and it's signature issue have deserted.
