Coachella's opening weekend featured unexpected guests like Zack de la Rocha joining Run the Jewels, Haim performing alongside Jenny Lewis and Madonna making out with Drake, but the California fest's second weekend had an even bigger surprise in store: Kanye West came out unannounced during the Weeknd's late Saturday night slot. The rapper ran through four tracks during his Indio visit: "Can't Tell Me Nothing," his cover of Chief Keef's "I Don't Like," Yeezus's "Black Skinhead" and his latest single "All Day."
According to Miss Info, the Weeknd first delivered a vocal-only cover of West's 808s & Heartbreak single "Heartless," at which point Kanye suddenly appeared onstage as the sound of "Can't Tell Me Nothing" exploded out of the speakers. West and the Weeknd's Abel Tesfaye performed that Graduation hit together before Kanye launched into his mini-set. The surprise performance also marked West's first time on the Coachella stage since his 2011 festival-closing headlining gig.
West's unannounced Coachella visit comes a week after the rapper made an even unlikelier live appearance: A free concert at Swan Lake in Yerevan, Armenia. During that performance, which he secretly set up after tagging along on wife Kim Kardashian's trip to Armenia, West jumped into a lake while performing "Good Life." Dozens of fans leapt in the lake after West and proceeded to take selfies with the rapper before security jumped in and prematurely ended the concert.
Coachella 2015 will officially conclude Sunday night with a festival-closing performance by Drake, who's made it a habit of bringing out big time guests.
