Watch Blur Go 8-Bit in Zany 'Ong Ong' Video

Damon Albarn dresses up like giant ice cream cone for reunited act's 'Magic Whip' single

Blur have shared the music video for "Ong Ong," the latest single on their reunion LP The Magic Whip, which finds the band dressing up as wacky 8-bit video game villains. "Ong Ong" follows an animated yellow smiley face emoji named Mr. OK – previously seen in Blur's "Go Out" video – as he goes on a Super Mario-esque journey to save his love, an animated pink smiley face emoji.

At the end of each level, Mr. OK encounters and defeats the Blur members, who are dressed as cockroaches (guitarist Graham Coxon) or giant ice cream cones (played by Damon Albarn) ripped from The Magic Whip album cover. The Tony Hung-directed video, when in 8-bit mode, synchronizes perfectly with "Ong Ong" as each Mr. OK bounce corresponds with a beat. As a bonus to fans, the video ends with minute of footage of the band just messing around in costume.

In May, Blur performed their first New York show in 12 years when they filled Brooklyn's Music Hall of Williamsburg for an intimate free gig where they played The Magic Whip in its near-entirety. That concert came one night after Blur brought "Ong Ong" to The Tonight Show, which marked their first U.S. late-night TV appearance since 2003. While the reunited Britpop group have no more North American dates on their schedule, June is packed with major Europe gigs at venues like the Isle of Wight and Hyde Park.
