De La Soul feat. Chuck D: The People

Hip-hop legends get together to vent their rage, clear their heads and wonder what's next after a year that seemed to offer gut-punch after gut-punch of good old-fashioned American brutality. Chuck D is righteously stentorian as he declares, "We are the ones with childhood dreams/But adulthood brings nightmares and screams," and De La Soul step in with rhymes like, "Lookin' to Obama for deliverance, but ever since they popped Malcolm and Martin we at the front of the bus, poutin'." There's deep-wound anger here, but there's also a backyard barbecue vibe imbued with wisdom, resilience and love.
