Chris Janson's new single is the autobiographical ballad "Holdin' Her," about his courtship, marriage and daily life with his wife Kelly. Janson sang the song at the Grand Ole Opry this past Friday, receiving a standing ovation for the performance and prompting the evening's host Vince Gill to take the mic and address the crowd.
"I'm gonna make a bold prediction," said Gill, "that that will be the song of the year. That song is why we all love music."
As Gill prefaced, it is in fact a bold prediction, but one that will be worth watching as awards season gets underway in the fall. Along with his Friday night performance, Janson recently filmed an acoustic solo take on the song for the Opry's Live From the Lounge web series. (Watch the video above).
"'Holdin Her' has become a lifestyle piece. It's way more than just a song," Janson tells Rolling Stone Country. "It's a testament to true love, which is hard to find, and I have that. I married my best friend. . . The song is the epitome of that."
