One Direction's Harry Styles has launched his highly-anticipated solo career with the power ballad "Sign of the Times." The sweeping, reflective song is the first single off his as-yet-untitled debut solo LP.
Unlike the rest of his bandmates who have tested out different genres and styles for their solo careers, Styles' new song aligns much more with the Seventies-inspired pop-rock of One Direction's more recent albums like Made in the A.M. Above Brian May-esque guitar parts, the singer channels his inner glam rocker for a song reminiscent of Mott the Hoople's "All the Young Dudes."
"Sign of the Times" was produced by Jeff Bhasker and co-written by Styles. He is the fourth of the current and former members of One Direction to release a solo single; Zayn Malik launched his R&B-driven solo career within the year following his official exit from the band. Niall Horan and Louis Tomlinson went folk and EDM respectively. The boy band has been on hiatus since 2015, and Styles will make his solo television debut on Saturday Night Live on April 15th.
