Chance the Rapper continued his campaign to spread holiday cheer by releasing a collaborative Christmas mixtape with the singer Jeremih on Thursday morning. Merry Christmas Lil' Mama contains wistful, romantic holiday originals full of graceful, off-the-cuff harmonies and live instrumentation. "Baby, let's light up the Christmas tree," Jeremih intones on "Joy." "Spike the eggnog with the Hennessy."
Chance and Jeremih posted the tape on Soundcloud along with a simple caption: "For Chicago." Both artists are from Chicago, and they recruited other natives to help them with their latest musical endeavor. Merry Christmas Lil' Mama includes guest appearances by Noname, who earned national attention this year with her breakout Telefone tape, the comedian Hannibal Buress and the rising rapper Lud Foe.
Few musicians have matched Chance's Christmas spirit this December. Earlier this month, the MC sang "Jingle Bells" at the White House with President Obama and participated in the Christmas tree lighting ceremony. Last weekend Chance appeared on Saturday Night Live in a skit inspired by Run D.M.C.'s "Christmas in Hollis," and on Wednesday, he shared a Christmas playlist – including selections from Jackson 5, Donny Hathaway and Kanye West – during an interview with BBC Radio 1.
