Behind the Scenes at Madonna and Maluma’s Musicians on Musicians Cover Shoot

“How does it feel doing an interview at 1 a.m.?” Maluma asked Madonna as the two of them were sitting down at a small table in Williamsburg’s Caribbean Social Club. They had just finished a detailed photoshoot for their Rolling Stone Musicians on Musicians cover, and even though it had been a long evening, they were ready to dive into a conversation they’d planned for weeks. It had been a while since they’d worked together: They first teamed up for “Medellín,” a song from Madonna’s 2019 album Madame X, and a lot had happened since then — new projects, new inspirations, new music. Madonna shared her approach to her Madame X concert film, which she released on October 8th, while Maluma discussed his releases Papi Juancho and #7DJ (7 Days in Jamaica). Both of them talked cracked jokes until about 2 a.m. Madonna teased Maluma for his early bedtime, while he told stories about her precision and thoroughness as an aritst. He remembered shooting the video for “Medellín” and how Madonna changed a few details to make sure the set was perfect. “You almost changed me,” he laughed. “Yeah, but I realized there was no replacement,” she told him.
