Hear Zedd’s Glitchy Remix of Shawn Mendes’ ‘Lost in Japan’
Zedd has crafted a bubbly, glitchy, clubby remix of Shawn Mendes’ “Lost in Japan.” The original track appears on Mendes’ third, self-titled album, released back in May.
Zedd’s take amps up the smooth, mid-temp R&B-pop slow jam. The German EDM superproducer makes Mendes’ cooing vocals more layered and atmospheric above a ticking beat that combusts into a glitchy but full sounding breakdown during each chorus. The end result sounds a bit like an old-school video game soundtrack with its melding of tiny noises into one bigger-than-life sound.
Shawn Mendes was released at the end of May and debuted at Number One, his third album in a row to do so. The more mature LP features writing and production credits from frequent collaborator Teddy Geiger as well as Julia Michaels, John Mayer and Ed Sheeran. This Saturday, September 29th, Mendes will join Janet Jackson, Cardi B, the Weeknd, Janelle Monáe and John Legend at the 2018 Global Citizens Festival in Central Park.
