Yo La Tengo, Guided by Voices Donate Songs for Surfer Blood Guitarist
A bevy of friends and artist have donated previously unreleased tracks and autographed memorabilia to help benefit Surfer Blood guitarist Thomas Fekete, who was diagnosed earlier this year with a rare form of cancer. An auction containing limited edition vinyl, signed items and digital downloads will help fund the alternative treatment Fekete, who is unable to tour, is currently undergoing.
Yo La Tengo, Guided By Voices, Cults, Real Estate, The Pains of Being Pure at Heart, Lou Barlow, The Ghost of a Saber Tooth Tiger, Nick Diamonds, Juliana Barwick, Alex Somers, …And You Will Know Us By The Trail of Dead, The Drums and Surfer Blood have each donated never-before-heard songs, which include demos, outtakes and new tracks. The tracks were pressed to hi-fi stereo lathe-cut vinyl with only one copy available for each song. They’re currently up for auction on eBay. Additional autographed items from Sleigh Bells, Yoko Ono & Flaming Lips, Interpol & Shepard Fairey, and Angel Olsen are also available via the auction.
The 13 tracks can also be digitally downloaded with a donation of $10 or more via Fekete’s GoFundMe page.
