Wu-Tang Clan Enters Charts At No.1

Hip-hop act Wu-Tang Clan's second
album moved 612,000 units in its first week and entered the charts
at No. 1, according to SoundScan figures obtained
from the group's label, Loud Records. The music
industry was looking to Wu-Tang Forever to spark
lackluster sales. The double disc was seen as one of the biggest
releases of the summer, and the 10-member rap group from Staten
Island, N.Y., has so far reached those expectations. "Sales were
incredible," Loud Records West Coast regional manager Tommy
Capistrano said Wednesday. "We were actually expecting
more, but we are not disappointed. The album looks as if it will
eventually sell 6 million-7 million copies worldwide." The band is
going on tour with alternative rockers Rage Against the
Machine, a move expected to widen the Clan's appeal.
