“Music was something that was a constant when we were filming,” recalls Jordin Sparks about her time working with Whitney Houston on the upcoming movie Sparkle, out August 17th. “Every morning when she would come in, she would put her iPod on the little speaker and she would blast gospel music … she was one of us. She was so fun. She wasn’t this person who was like, ‘OK, I’m gonna do my scenes and now I’m gonna leave. She wanted to sit with us and she wanted to chill with us.”
Sparks chatted with Rolling Stone about what it was like getting to work with one of her idols and recounted the origin story Houston told her about her 1993 smash hit, “I Have Nothing,” from the Bodyguard soundtrack – a song that Houston momentarily forgot was hers.
