Will Ferrell, RHCP’s Chad Smith to Reteam for All-Star Benefit

UPDATE: Devo, Jim Gaffigan and Nick Offerman will join Smith and Ferrell at the event. The comedian and drummer have posted a hilarious video promoting the event on Prizeo.
Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith and his celebrity lookalike Will Ferrell will reunite in the name of charity April 29th for the all-star Red Hot Benefit Comedy + Music Show & Quinceanera. The Red Hot Chili Peppers and other acts curated by Smith will provide the music for the event at Los Angeles’ Shrine Auditorium, while Ferrell and his Funny or Die team will recruit fellow comedians to perform at the extravaganza.
“I have only one great regret in life and it’s that I never actually celebrated my quinceanera,” Ferrell said in a statement. “I’d like to think it was just a simple oversight by my mother, but there has been a void inside me for many years. Growing up on the mean streets of Irvine, California, I have vivid memories of all my friends celebrating their quinceanera. Well, on April 29th at the Shrine Auditorium, with Red Hot Chili Peppers and a bunch of other really talented comedians and musicians by my side, we are going to right that wrong, and everyone is invited.”
After years of being confused for one another, Smith and Ferrell finally came face-to-face in May 2014 for a surprise Drum Off on The Tonight Show. Their battle yielded nearly $500,000 for Smith and Ferrell’s respective charities, and the Red Hot Benefit will once again raise money for non-profit organizations: Ferrell’s beneficiary is Cancer for College, while Smith will represent his bandmate Flea’s Silverlake Conservatory of Music.
“We had so much fun with Will on the drum-off and ultimately getting the entire band together to participate on the Tonight Show,” Smith added. “So much goodwill came out of one silly joke. We’ve been trying to find another way to get together and do some more good for our respective causes and I think we have found it. I’m going to check with my own mother, because I don’t recall any family photos of my own quinceanera either.”
A limited number of tickets to the Red Hot Benefit Comedy + Music Show & Quinceanera go on sale to Citi card members on March 8th, with a general on-sale scheduled for March 11th. Check out Funny or Die’s Red Hot Benefit site for complete event information.
