Whitney Houston Back in Rehab

Embattled diva re-admitted a year after last treatment

Whitney Houston was re-admitted into an undisclosed rehabilitation facility yesterday, a year after her last reported stay. Rumors of Houston’s — and husband Bobby Brown’s — drug addiction were initially sparked by Houston’s arrest in January 2000 for possession of marijuana at Hawaii’s Keahole Kona International Airport. The forty-one-year-old pop diva discussed her rumored drug abuse problem in a much-talked-about interview with Diane Sawyer on ABC’s Primetime in December 2002.

Months after her 2000 arrest, Us Weekly ran a story claiming that Houston’s family and friends were attempting to get the singer help. Shortly thereafter, a seemingly healthy Houston performed at the Grammys, rocking the crowd with a stunning performance of her hit song “It’s Not Right But It’s Okay,” which won her a Grammy for best female R&B vocal performance that evening.

Since then, Brown has kept the couple in the news, jailed multiple times in 2004 for violating probation and defaulting on child support payments stemming from a previous relationship. He was also charged with misdemeanor battery for allegedly striking Houston last year.

Following her stint in drug rehabilitation last March, Houston has been working on her comeback album with longtime mentor and J Records head Clive Davis.
