After months of intriguing Weezer teasers, the alt-rock icons have finally announced the release date of their ninth studio LP, Everything Will Be Alright in the End. The Ric Ocasek-produced album will enter the world on September 30th via Republic Records.

The announcement comes courtesy of a brief Youtube clip, the latest in the band’s weekly #WeezerWednesday webisode series – which has also been used to share the new album’s title and goofy artwork. The latest teaser features a snippet of a new tune named “Return to Ithaca,” which features crunching triplet snare rolls and furious nerd-metal riffing.

According to a press release, Everything is “organized thematically around three groups of songs” and “utilizes that sound from the band’s earliest days to tell new stories in 2014.” The studio clips released so far showcase a heavier, more guitar-oriented direction than the band’s last few albums, and frisbee-catching drummer Pat Wilson offered a similar description in a new interview with Entertainment Weekly.

“If you took the Pinkerton band and then play all the other records – that’s what we sound like now,” he says. “Bombastic, loose, kind of booming. This record sounds like it’s going to have the tight structure of Blue Album with a little bit more abandon like Pinkerton.”

Meanwhile, frontman Rivers Cuomo reflected on why the band decided to reunite with the Cars’ Ric Ocasek (who produced 1994’s Blue Album and 2001’s Green Album). “Ric wasn’t the obvious first choice for us,” Cuomo said. “Eventually, as we meditated on all the different options, it dawned on us that the vibe we wanted and the sound we wanted and the energy we wanted, there was no one on Earth who could get that better than Ric.”
